Our chosen charity for 2019 is Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance.
This was the overwhelming choice of our colleagues as we have recently been touched by this very valuable service.

FAREWELL Me & Dee
As soon as the Franklands team met the inspirational Maria Hanson MBE, Chief Executive of Me & Dee, we knew that we wanted to help raise awareness and funds for this wonderful charity. Me & Dee provides holidays for both adults and children with life threatening and terminal conditions and for physically and emotionally injured service men and women. Their aim is to make special family memories when time is very short and precious.
As a result, Me & Dee became our annual charity for 2017, but we formed such a strong bond with Maria and her charity, that our colleagues voted to extend their Charity of the Year status into 2018.
A flurry of festive fund raising activities in December brought the curtain down on our activities for Me & Dee and the final amount raised over the two years stands at just over £10,500, a record for Franklands. The major single fundraiser was “Franklands to the Sea for Me & Dee” a 92 mile sponsored walk from our Derby office, to the charity’s seaside base in Mablethorpe, which was completed in under 55 hours.
Maria said: “this is a remarkable achievement by all of our friends at Franklands. Raising money is a challenge in the current economic environment and this wonderful contribution has allowed us to consider helping some deserving causes that otherwise we would have turned away”. Reflecting on the sponsored walk she added “in the past we have had people walking for us and cycling great distances, but never have we had people walk 92 miles for us and that was just a marvellous achievement”. Maria finished by saying: “No one in 12 years has done what you have from a company both by fundraising and your care, support and friendship to us”.
The team at Franklands feel immensely proud of supporting Maria and the charity, and wish them all the best in the future.
Looking ahead, our chosen charity for 2019 is Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance. This was the overwhelming choice of our colleagues as we have recently been touched by this very valuable service.
Launched in 2008 the charity has responded to more than 35,000 missions making it one of the busiest air ambulance organisations in the UK. The rapid response of the Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance is so vital in an emergency situation, as if a patient reaches hospital within the Golden Hour (60 minutes after their injury), their chances of survival are dramatically increased.
The service receives no Government, or National Lottery funding and as each mission costs approximately £2,500, public and business donations are essential to keep their air ambulances operational.
We look forward to supporting this very worthy cause and working with our chosen charity throughout the year.
Lee Bunting, Community Fundraising Executive for the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance said: “I am thrilled that the team at Franklands Insurance and Risk Management have selected us as their charity to support throughout 2019. After meeting with them all I was so impressed by their dedication to fundraising for charity and their passion for the Air Ambulance and the services we provide. Their desire to raise money for the Air Ambulance is truly incredible and I look forward to working closely with them.”
